DIAMOND Cut
Q: “Why does everyone say that “cut” is so important?”
A: “The diamond’s overall beauty depends on the cut. This is how the light performance produces that sparkle we associate with diamonds.”.
The light performance of a diamond depends on the cut — as the light escapes through the bottom if the cut is too shallow; and it escapes through the sides if it is too deep. When the diamond is cut in a proper proportion, the light reflects from the top or “table” of the diamond.
Cut Grades
Excellent Cut
This represents the top 3% of diamond quality based on the cut. A very rare cut.
Very Good Cut
The top 15% of diamond quality based on cut comes from this group. Good value, and these diamonds reflect nearly as much light as the ideal cut.
Good Cut
This cut represents approximately the top 25% of diamond quality based on cut. These diamonds are much less expensive than a very good cut.
Fair Cut
This cut represents the top 35% of diamond quality based on cut. Not as brilliant as a good cut.
Poor Cut
Diamonds of this cut are either very deep or very shallow. They lose light from the sides or the bottom. Waldemar Jewellers do not present diamonds with a poor cut grade.
